Winnie Mаk was born in Hong Kong. She lives in Hong Kong and is currently the President of the Hong Kong Union of Visual Artists. She studied Chinese ink painting and calligraphy in Calgary, Canada in the 1970s. She attended workshops conducted by the late Mr. LEE Byng, the foremost painter from Hong Kong, and the late Mr. Chin Shek LAM, a leading contemporary Chinese ink painter based in Canada.
After returning to Hong Kong in 1994, she set up her studio and conducted painting classes for children. Apart from developing her own artwork, she administered an array of art projects and visual arts exhibitions, in her capacity as curator and organizer for the Hong Kong Committee of the Federation of Asian Artists, under the aegis of the Home Affair Bureau of HKSAR, and the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, with rewarding results.
Her artworks have been included in the permanent collection of: The Duanghuang Arts Centre, China (2001); The Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Center in Bangkok, the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, the Ministry of Culture of Thailand (2013); The International Printmaking Center of the National Taiwan Normal University (2017); The Diaghilev Museum of Modern Art of the St. Petersburg State University (2018); And in Hong Kong: the University Museum and Art Gallery, The University of Hong Kong (2007); Yiqingzhai Studio (2013); The Hongkong Land Limited, and other corporate and private collectors, both locally and internationally.
In 2015, she presented her one-person exhibition, titled: Ink - Window to Tranquility at the Lucie Chang Fine Arts in Hong Kong. In 2014, the A GALLERY in Taipei presented her debut exhibition, titled: LINES and BEYOND: Contemporary Ink by Winnie Mak.
