Currently, he is the director of the Laboratory of Chinese Character Research and Modern Application and the deputy director of the Research Center for Folklore, Classics and Chinese Characters. He is also the secretary general of the Language and Characters Standard Committee of the Ministry of Education, member of the Language and Characters Standard Review Committee, member of Expert Committee of Beijing Language and Characters, and president of the Beijing Language and Culture Association. He was once awarded the honorable titles of Outstanding Talents in New Century by the Ministry of Education, Outstanding Teachers in Beijing, Excellent Teacher by Baosteel and so on.
He mainly studies Chinese philology, traditional linguistics, ancient classics and culture. He has published roughly 20 monographs, and over 100 academic papers. As the chief expert of major projects of National Social Science Fund of China, he has presided over and engaged in more than 20 national and provincial scientific research projects. He is the teacher of two national superior courses and his teaching and scientific research achievements once won the first prize of Beijing Excellent Scientific Research Achievements, the second prize of National Teaching Achievements, second prize of Outstanding Scientific Research Achievement Award of the Ministry of Education and other prizes.
