Vladimír Šlapeta graduated at the Czech Technical University in Prague (1972), worked as an architect in Ostrava. Head of the Architecture Department of the National Museum of Technology in Prague (1973-91), than professor and Dean of the Faculty of Architecture in Prague (1991-97 and 2003-2006), than professor of the Faculty of Architecture in Brno (Dean 2006-2010).

Honorary Fellow of the AIA [American Institute of Architects] (USA), RIBA [Royal Institute of British Architects] (UK) and BDA [Bund Deutscher Architekten] (Germany), corresponding memberof the Russian Academy of Architecture and Civil Engeneering. Acting member of the Akademie der Kuenste Berlin and ICOMOS ISC 20Ct [ICOMOS Twentieth Century Heritage International Scientific Committee].

Author of many books and exhibitions on Czech and Central European Architecture of 20th century.
