Art critic, architectural historian, academician at the Russian Academy of Arts, Professor Emeritus at the Moscow Institute of Architecture, member of the Council for Culture and Arts under the President of the Russian Federation, Honoured Art Worker, Professor at the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, Doctor honoris causa at the Academy of Fine Arts in Turin, honoured member of the Rome University of Fine Arts.

Has been the commissioner of the Russia's Pavilion at La Biennale di Venezia (Venice Biennale) since 2015 and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Manege Central Exhibition Hall in St. Petersburg. He is a member of the Council for City Planning and Architecture under the Government of St. Petersburg, Presidium of the Russian Academy of Arts, Organizing Committee of the St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum and a number of other expert organizations.

He is the organizer and curator of exhibitions in Russia, China, the United States, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Finland. He was given the Government's of the Russian Federation Award in the field of culture, Order of the Star of Italy and other awards.
