Piotr Lapo graduated from the Byelorussian State University majoring in applied mathematics in 1981, and software development for various automated control systems was his main kind of activities for a long time. He came to librarian business in 1994, taking the position of the head of the librarian processes automation department in the Academic Library of the Byelorussian National Academy of Sciences. Later, he headed the Fundamental Library of the Byelorussian State University for 15 years, since March 2015, he has been employed as the general expert at the Academic Library of the Nazarbaev University (Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan).
He went on training to the United States (University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign) and Poland (Nicolaus Copernicus University, Torun).
He lectured at the Byelorussian State University of Culture and Arts, he is the author of over 70 papers.
Initiator and performer of a number of national and international projects in library science.
President of the Byelorussian Librarian Association in 2001–2005.
