Twenty-five years ago, Oleg Novikov founded Eksmo Publishing House, and in 2012 headed Eksmo-AST, the largest publishing company in Russia. Thanks to Oleg Novikov, Russian readers discovered the names of such authors as Zakhar Prilepin, Dmitry Glukhovsky, Evgeny Vodolazkin, Boris Akunin, Daria Dontsova, Tatyana Ustinova, Vladimir Pozner, Viktor Pelevin, Paulo Coelho, Haruki Murakami, Stephen King, Chuck Palahniuk, George Martin, Umberto Eco, Ray Bradbury, and many others.
Oleg Novikov has also made a considerable contribution to development of instructional and educational literature. Rossiyskiy Uchebnik Corporation has been designing and publishing contemporary textbooks on paper and in the electronic form; its authors and experts include members of the RAS and other leading scientific and educational organizations of the country.
Oleg Novikov has initiated the National Program for the Support and Promotion of Reading and many other projects to popularize literature in Russia. Upon the initiative of Oleg Novikov and the Russian Book Union, various book forums are organized across Russia, and new reading infrastructure facilities — bookstores and libraries — are opened. As a manager of a leading publishing holding, Mr. Novikov opposes copyright infringement online and promotes creation of legal content on e-book collection websites.
In 2015, the Year of Literature in Russia, S. E. Naryshkin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation, awarded Oleg Novikov a medal for his services to the book industry. Mr. Novikov is a member of the Presidium of the Russian Book Union, Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation, active public figure, and author of many initiatives aimed at popularizing reading in Russia.
