After finishing his studies in economics, he began his career in the public administration at the Public Prosecutor’s office – Abruzzo Appeal Court in L’Aquila and after brief experiences at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Economy and Finance, he arrived at the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, where he held many leading positions until he became Director General for Cinema in 2009.
The institutional tasks of the Directorate General for Cinema include the management of the activities supporting film production, distribution and exhibition, the circulation of national films in Italy and abroad and initiatives to promote film culture. He also manages the administrative activities related to tax reliefs (tax credit, tax shelter).
The Directorate General for Cinema (DGC) also supervises Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia Foundation, Cinecittà Luce S.p.A. and La Biennale di Venezia Foundation and conducts audits and administrative checks, inspections and control over supervised entities and beneficiaries of contributions by the Ministry.
To carry out these tasks, the Directorate General for Cinema uses the funds allocated to the film activities by the Development Investment Fund in the film and audiovisual industry. The DGC makes use of the work of specific committees required by the l legislation.
