In 1994 – 2006 — head of department Committee for the state preservation of historical and cultural monuments. Since 2006 she teaches in Saint Petersburg Stieglitz State Academy of Art and Design, since 2007 — principal research fellow of the Scientific Research Institute of the Theory and History of Architecture and Urban Planning (NIITIAG). Margarita Stieglitz is a recognized expert in the history of industrial architecture and avant-garde architecture, deals with the problems of its preservation. She started a new direction - the study and protection of St. Petersburg industrial architecture, led the compilation of lists of industrial architecture monuments of St. Petersburg for their placement under protection. She is author of a number of books and more than 150 publications on this subject in Russian and foreign editions.
