Born in 1976, Marc Grandmontagne studied Law and Political Science at the Universities of Saarbrücken and Tübingen (Germany) and Siena (Italy). After qualifying as a lawyer and working as a parliamentary assistant for Jürgen Schröder MEP in Brussels in 2006, he was head of the Executive Office for the “RUHR.2010 — European Capital of Culture” project from 2007 to 2010 and, following this, was programme director at the Stiftung Mercator foundation in Essen.
Between 2013 and 2016, he was managing director of the Kulturpolitische Gesellschaft e. V. (Society for Cultural Policy) in Bonn. Here, his work included overseeing association activities and helping to plan cultural development and other projects undertaken by the institute in the field of cultural policy.
Marc Grandmontagne has been Managing Director of the German Theatre Association since 2017. Grandmontagne is a moderator and speaker on specialist panels and discussions. He is also a member of the German UNESCO Commission’s Advisory Board on the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.
Since 2017 he has been spokesman for the German Council for Performing Arts and Dance (Deutscher Kulturrat); he is also a member of the PEARLE* Executive Committee and a member of the German Academy of Performing Arts, the Advisory Board of the German Orchestra Foundation, the Advisory Board of Women's Cultural Offices NRW and the Board of Trustees of the Foundation Dance — Transition.
