Lovemore Mazibuko

Director of Museums and Monuments, Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Wildlife of the Republic of Malawi.
Born on 9th October 1974, Dr. Mazibuko possesses a Doctoral of Philosophy Degree from Exploits University (Malawi, 2020), a Master of Science Degree (Malawi, 2007), a Postgraduate Diploma in the Care and Management of Heritage and Museum Collections (Kenya, 2005) and a Bachelor of Education Degree (Malawi, 1998).

Dr. Mazibuko has worked for the Department of Museums and Monuments since 1999. He was appointed as Director of Museums and Monuments on 5th January 2021, the position which he holds to-date. As Director of Museums and Monuments, Dr. Mazibuko is responsible for management, control and administration of national museums and monuments in Malawi.

Professionally, Dr. Mazibuko is an ethnographer by training. He is a member of African Council of Museums, Commonwealth Association of Museums, and International Council of Museums. He has participated in a number of UNESCO sponsored capacity-building programmes on ICH in different countries. He is also a UNESCO certified Intangible Cultural Heritage Trainer for Southern Africa and has facilitated capacity-building workshops in Botswana, Eritrea, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Seychelles, South Sudan, Zambia and Zimbabwe. He has also been involved in documenting national inventories of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) in Malawi and beyond.
