He worked in the Yunost Journal, and in such periodicals as "Sobesednik", "Vek", "Rodnaya Gazeta", "Rossiyskaya Gazeta".

In 2003–2005 he was Editor-in-Chief of "Politichesky Zhurnal." Laureate of the Russian Golden Quill Competition of the Union of Journalists. Since February 2009 he has worked as a columnist writing about problems of cultural heritage protection in Gazeta.

A participant of the public movement for protection of Moscow monuments since mid-1980s. Author of the idea and organizer of a series of journalistic exhibitions “Against the Wrench” ("Protiv Loma", 1999–2003) dedicated to destruction of architectural and historical monuments in Moscow. One of the founders of the Archnadzor social movement for preservations of monuments.

Member of the Coordination Council of the movement, Coordinator of its Information Section.
