Metropolitan Tikhon — lay name Georgy Alexandrovich Shevkunov — is one of the best known hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan of Pskov and Porkhov, head of the Pskov Metropoly since May 2018, hegumen of the Pskov and Pechory Monastery (from July 14, 2018).
Metr. Tikhon was born in 1958; in 1982 graduated from the Faculty of Script-Writing of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography. In the same year, he entered the Pskov and Pechory Monastery as a monastery worker, then as a novice. In 1995–2018 served as Father Superior of the Monastery of Candlemas in Moscow. Metr. Tikhon is Chairman of the Patriarch's Council for Culture. Co-Chairman of the Church and Public Council for Mitigating Threats of Alcoholism. Church writer, script writer, editor-in-chief Pravoslavie.Ru Internet portal. His Grace has authored several documentary and popular films about church life. His book entitled "Unholy Holy Men" was met with great acclaim. Published in 2011, it became a real bestseller. As of 2019, the book had 17 editions, its total circulation is 3,000,000 copies. Metropolitan Tikhon also wrote a play "Griffon", which was turned into a multimedia show telling the story of the ancient city of Chersonesos Taurica. The play was staged on the new stage in Sevastopol's Chersonesos Taurica Museum and Reserve in 2019.
