Anton Tanonov

The Head of the Department of Special Composition and Improvisation, St. Petersburg State Conservatory named after N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov.

St. Petersburg-based composer and professor. Laureate of international and All-Russian composer competitions. He has authored symphonies, pieces for chamber orchestra, and music for theatre and film. Audiences welcomed especially warmly Tanonov's musicals, such as "The Master and Margarita", "Onegin's Demon", "Oscar and the Pink Lady", and "Lolita", and "Chudo Yudo" family music fairy tale.

He graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory where he studied under the People's Artist of Russia Sergey Slonimsky. Professor Tanonov has been employed with the Saint-Petersburg Conservatory since 2003.

Since 2012, he has served as the Head of the Department of Composition and Improvisation at St. Petersburg Conservatory. During his tenure as the Head, Professor Tanonov implemented some educational reforms in the Department of Composition. New courses, such as Jazz Improvisation, Film Music and Electronic Music Composition, were added to the curriculum of the Department.

In 2018, Tanonov headed the St. Petersburg Branch of the Union of Composers of Russia.

Renowned musicians, including Vladimir Fedoseev, Alexander Sladkovsky, Alim Shakhmametiev, Vladimir Lande, Alexander Titov, Veronika Dzhioeva, Mikhail Dziudze, Osman Giuseppe Gioia (Brazil), and others have performed Tanonov's music.

Tanonov's music has been performed at best concert venues of Russia: Grand Hall of the Moscow Philharmonic, Philharmonics of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Novosibirsk, and Nizhny Novgorod, among others.
