Adriaan is an outstanding expert of book industry who researches books and digital media in the Leiden University. His research interests are focused on digitalization of data and reading; publishing researches and scientific communication. Also, he's the author of a few books on these topics, as well as an editor of a quarterly publication Digital Humanities.

His most recent books: Changing Our Textual Minds: Towards a Digital Order of Knowledge (Manchester: Manchester UP, 2011) and The Unbound Book (Amsterdam: (Amsterdam: UP, 2013), a collection of essays published together with Joost Kircz. Adriaan van der Weel is a Vice President of E-READ.
