"The Winter Journey" is a legendary song cycle by Franz Schubert, consisting of 24 poems by Wilhelm Mueller.
The songs send the listener on a journey that, as it is clear from the first song, will end tragically. Even the very name "Winter Journey" conjures up a visual image that requires performers to fully immerse themselves in the atmosphere of cold, dark, lonely despair. The composition never leaves the listener indifferent, and if you hear it for the first time, you will remember it for the rest of your life.
"Winter Journey" is very rarely performed in Russia and will be presented at the IX St. Petersburg International Cultural Forum by one of the greatest vocalists of his time — Manuel Walser, accompanied by pianist Nikolaus Rexroth.
The Small Hall of the D. D. Shostakovich St. Petersburg Academic Philharmonic is one of the best halls in the world with first-class acoustics.
