Qatar Contemporary: Art and Photography

The exhibition of Qatar Contemporary Art organized in collaboration with Qatar Museums, the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar, and the Doha Film Institute will open for the first time in Russia in the framework of the VII Saint Petersburg International Cultural Forum. The exhibition, a part of the Year of Culture Qatar-Russia 2018, will take place in the Central Exhibition Hall Manege. The goal of the exhibition is to introduce the latest artistic tradition of Qatar to the viewers and to demonstrate the influence on the society of the changes that take place in this Middle Eastern country.

Today artists and photographers of Qatar are provided with unprecedented creative opportunities that have emerged due to rapid economic and social transformations the country is currently experiencing. The exhibition will address such issues as the effect of increasing materialism and growing consumption on public institutes of Qatar, interaction of traditional and innovative artistic practices, as well as increasing influence of digital technologies and automated processes on the society. 

Visitors will see over 150 artworks and 370 photographs from the Qatar Museums collection. Their authors not only document social realms, but contribute towards the reshaping of the visual identity of their nation.
