The works of artists with disabilities or mental health conditions influenced the artists of the 20th century in Europe. It is also a part of the general art system and the museum collections around the world. In our country, lots of artists living in isolation due to disability are left out of professionals’ view in the art world. During the talk, we will discuss who forms the criteria for assessing the artistic significance of an artwork. Why do some authors get recognized by art critics, while others stay in the background? Does one’s "diagnosis" or a remarkable biography help or hinder to get the attention of the professional community? And on other issues related to museum recognition and preservation of works created by artists from vulnerable social groups.
