The film tells the story of an extraordinary man Johannes Rettenberger. He is both a long-distance runner and a serial bank robber, perfectly aware of the abilities of his body and managing it in the way to remain elusive for the police. But his endurance and dexterity will not be able to protect him from emptiness and futility. "The Robber" is an adaptation of the novel of the same name by Martin Prinz, based on real events from the life of a famous Austrian criminal.
