The exhibition “Amazing Movement. Giovanni Paisiello and Domenico Cimarosa at the court of Catherine II” that accompanies and adds to the musical program of the concert “Magic of Old Clavecins” will take place in the Foyer of the Hermitage Theatre in the framework of the VII Saint Petersburg International Cultural Forum and the festival “Russian Seasons” to tell about the stage of establishment of relations between Russia and Italy, as well as about cultural and artistic exchange with Naples during the reign of Catherine II.
The exhibition organized by the MetaMorfosi Association in cooperation with the Embassy of Italy in Moscow, the Italian Institute of Culture in Saint Petersburg, the State Hermitage, the Royal Palace of Caserta, the Orchestra of the Saint Petersburg Music Hall Theatre, the Conservatory of San Pietro a Majella in Naples will cover some aspects of relations between Russia and Italy resulting in such great composers and musicians from Naples as Giovanni Paisiello and Domenico Cimarosa coming to the court of Catherine the Great in the 18th century.
Original harpsichords presented by the Empress to those two composers still remain the property of the Naples Conservatory of Music. They will be brought back to the Hermitage for the first time to be used at the concert, where the Orchestra of the Saint Petersburg Music Hall Theatre directed by Maestro Fabio Mastrangelo will perform, as well as other Italian musicians. The exhibition adding to the concert includes some paintings and sculptures, as well as original music texts and manuscripts.
Preliminary presentation of the event will take place in Italy, two concerts involving the Orchestra of the Saint Petersburg Music Hall Theatre will take place in the Court Theatre in the Royal Palace of Caserta.
